Football Predictions- 2019-2020: Instant views.

With the Charity Shield  playing this Sunday (4th August ) and the Championship starting this weekend, it's high time I gave my predictions for The Premiership and  Championship Football Leagues. So here goes:


Premiership

 1 Manchester City

 2  Liverpool

 3  Tottenham Hotspur

 4   Chelsea.

 It is impossible to see beyond City or Liverpool for the title.

 Spurs should carry on their impressive progress.
They are safely bedded down in their new ground and seem sure to
give a good account of themselves.

 Chelsea are my wild card. I am hoping, under the new stewardship
of Frank Lampard, they will regain discipline and begin to play
to their undoubted strengths.

 I am of course, wary of Manchester United, who must, at some time
regain their form and strive for the top again. I give them another
year in transition.
 So, for me, two from the north west and two
 from the capital.

Championship

1  Leeds

 2  Cardiff City

 3  West Bromwich Albion

 4  Middlesborough.

 Surely Leeds will return to the Premiership 
this season. They were up near the top throughout
and only fell away at the end. Win with pride.

 Neil Warnock is the  jewel in Cardiff's crown.
He almost kept them up in the top flight and
will engage the troops  in battle formation and
worry them until they gain promotion.

 The "Baggies" used to be the proverbial 
yo yo team; up and down from Premier to
Championship. The midlands, excepting
Villa are under-represented in the the top tier.
Under Bilic, they may get their act together
though it promises to be a rocky,
 if interesting ride.

 "Boro are another nearly side. They
have the ground, supporter strength
and a feeling they have been under-
achieving for a long time. maybe, just
maybe......

 Wild card; Luton Town, who have
been going through a renaissance 
in the past few seasons. I never
dismiss momentum. We shall see.

Instant Lives

How wonderful to read a book 
To listen to music and disengage 
from the digital debris.
Bringing multiple messages,
Videos,photos,news and fake news
All in an instant.

What is an instant? What is its value?
Faster processing means an instant 
will be faster this year than last.
Time is compressed like swimmers
racing in the pool.
Yet we still feel stressed, not knowing 
what to do with that extra time?
.
This compression forces us to 
make unwise choices; like editing
Children’s books effecting a shorter 
reading time and scanning 
headlines to deliver a bite-size
news report.

This accelerated pace plays
havoc with body clocks especially 
as time is really on our side.

Slower and deeper we must go
like those blessed poets who enter
that secret, mysterious alchemy
of language bringing joy, sorrow and
the full gamut of human emotions.

Their words will remain  locked
within; not vanishing in an instant.

With a picture of Stonehenge on a beer  brewed in Wiltshire by Wadsworth, I was amused to see it entitled " A Game of Bones"

On Tuesday D. and I went from Buckle Street ( Jackdaws Castle )  back along the Gloucestershire Way  to our last finish point in the woods near Condicote. "Jackdaws Castle" is the  horse racing establishment, run by Jonjo O'Neill. Read more at: Jonjo The Way  continues opposite these gates along a metalled bridle path/track leading,  after a  half mile to Ford Hill Farm. The path loops around the farm and soon emerges on a pleasant bridleway. This is a very quiet stretch and I agree with our guide writer Gerry Stewart, who describes it thus: "  This open ridge-top provides a great sense of kinship with the early people who once traversed these tracks." ( p.91) After this bridleway, the path continued  through a field of yellow rape seed, until turning left,  we espied our former end position amongst the woods of Hinchwick.   Saturday 16th February Hi All, I want to start with a bold statement: we are all selfish. The more we age, the more we want to cling onto life. It's the old survival instinct. That's why it's important to pause at each Valentine Day and realise how important our family and friends are. In The Smoke with Turner: Lest We Forget: Curlyfit to Drop.

Last Tuesday ( 11/ 11 ) D. and I visited London to see our daughter L. and to view the " Late Turner " art exhibition at Tate Britain. In a jokey fashion, I have always referred to London as " Up The Smoke "  in celebration of its industrial past. It was therefore interesting to note that the artist Joseph Mallord William Turner ( 1775 - 1851) not only lived in  this industrial period, but also used it frequently in his paintings. He was, for example,  the first major artist to use the steam train as a subject and delighted in smoke, fog and mists through which he could express the properties of light so effectively. The exhibition marked the last period of his life from 1835 when he was sixty years of age. He constantly travelled widely in Europe drawing sketches at all points on his journey. He was drawn to water and therefore especially loved Venice, with its natural mists and shadows. He was famous for his sea views and in fact developed the idea...
