Hi All,

I want to start with a bold statement: we are all selfish. The more we age, the more we want to cling onto life. It's the old survival instinct.

That's why it's important to pause at each Valentine Day and realise how important our family and friends are. The love and support they give us and hopefully we return; slows down that selfish gene and makes us glad to be human.  To love and be loved; makes us humble, content and lucky.

My synapses, as you have probably figured, fire strangely.  Example: lucky made me think of gambling- having a bet - favourite jockeys; which led me  to Jimmy Uttley.

A 'Powerful' Read: Apple-Tizing: Cheltenham Views

I recently learned in a post that " The Power "  by Naomi Alderman was the winner of the 2017 Baileys ( previously Orange ) Women's Prize For Fiction. This was the first time the prize had been awarded for a science fiction novel. Being a long time Sci Fi fan I got out my trusty Library App and  was able quickly  to reserve a copy of the said book.




It certainly was an engrossing and mildly disturbing read. A dystopian book, which puts women in the 'driving seat, 'as it were. 

By using their bodily electrical systems, they are able to discharge jolts of power, which dependent upon the surge can injure, maim, or in severe cases kill their quarry, which were usually male. By this way the abused became the abusers and the females became the dominant gender.

 So the whole world culture was  changed, in order to adapt to these changed circumstances, with religion becoming increasingly Matriarchal  with the Mother  the superior.

Round the Clock: Cheltenham Secret: Moonshine

At one it's that time for food, drink and lunch. At one, twisting, turning I give the pillow a punch.
At two the need for post-prandial drinks at the bar. At two in sleep  I  dream of lands near and  very far.
At three the big crowd anxiously await the kick-off time. At three, tossing and turning I hear the church clock chime.
At four the children come home from school safe and sound. At four the dairy people start their  early morning milk round.

At five some shops begin to close, their business done for the night At five imperceptibly, then gradually the room is invaded by light

At six the kettle is filled and boiled  for the tea to be made At six news-vendors display the papers for the morning trade.
At  seven after food  and bathing,  time for toddlers to go to bed. At seven waking-up begins and the chance for sleep has fled.
