Uncommonly Clement Weather On The Common; Soccer Analysis.

Down below a stillness in the valley
and little activity
 in  the village of Kings Stanley.


Last Monday ( 11/ 6 )  D. and I drove up to Selsey Common.
It was a perfect Summer's day with clear blue skies and visibility reaching  a distance of over 16 kilometres. Very little wind, uncut grass and no evidence of cows, which often graze upon it. Indeed God was in  his heaven.

I sat down, ate my sandwiches and glorified in the scene in front and near me.




There is  nothing more to be said. A day to remember.

Football Analysis 

Premier League

Predicted                        Actual Final Placing

1 Chelsea                         5th
2  Man Utd.                     2nd
3   Man City                    1st

It was the year of the two Manchesters.
 City ran away with the title leaving Utd trailing in second. 

 Chelsea rallied  in the closing months of the season and won the F. A. Cup.


Champions League

1 Aston Villa                4th
2 Fulham                      3rd
3 Reading                     20th

Aston  Villa ended up with a stuttering season losing 1 - 0 to Fulham in the play-offs. They should have done better and will come back with a greater  determination, combined with a hunger for promotion.

Fulham, on the other hand timed their promotion run to perfection.
No team in this league was playing better in the last two months of the season. A great team performance.

Reading made up ground in the middle of the season and then fell away. Overall a very disappointing performance. Come on you Royals.

League 1

1 Blackburn             2nd
2  Plymouth             8th
3  Doncaster             16th

Blackburn showed their class from a slow start. just pipped by Rotherham for the title, they should have a good run in the Championship , especially at home.

  Plymouth, from a dismal start came strongly mid -season and looked at one time sure to make the play-offs. Next season should be interesting.

Doncaster, never at the races, Consolidation needed.

League 2

1 Coventry City         5th
2 Swindon                  9th
3 Lincoln                    7th.


Coventry took a few matches to remember who they were, being beaten at times by such lowly teams, as Forest Green. Once they got the hang of the League, they powered onwards, winning promotion by defeating Exeter City in the Play-offs.

 Swindon flattered to deceive early season, then drifted off the pace, but then showed  some enterprise and just missed the play-offs.
Maybe next Season ?

 Lincoln produced an excellent series of results, for a newly promoted team.  In addition,  they won the Checkatrade Cup  defeating Shrewsbury 1- 0 in  the Wembley Final/,  They narrowly lost out to Exeter City in the Play-offs. If they keep their management team, they must go close in 2019.

And so wishing England  a good run in the World  Cup but expecting Germany to ultimately triumph in  Russia.

Tuesday Glory: Spring is Coming

When Tuesdays are glorious; the birds sing; the sun shines; the bright colours come out to play and all is well with the world. Such a day was Tuesday, February 8th, at eleven  'o ' clock, when I fetched up at the Sherborne National Trust Estate. This sign looked promising, but as I made my way out of the car park and into the woodland, no snowdrops were to be seen. But although the woods were still sleeping in the shade, some catkins were  in view. Reaching the road and turning right, I soon came by the nature reserve, with its gentle meandering stream. When I reached the nearby church, I beheld  my first snowdrops; a wonderful domesticated array of white, interspersed with yellow crocus. My route then took me, from the road, back into the estate. Here, through the effect of the sun shining on the ground; were further miracles before me as I walked back to the car.   A selection of images for you. All that was left to complete this excelle

Toys for the Boys

Visited Snowshill Manor,near Broadway today. I noticed near the Restaurant, an unusual replica wind toy, with back-up electric motor. Snowshill Manor houses the amazing collection of Mr. Charles Wade, with over 22,000 objects; including toys. Above is the original toy model, suspended from the ceiling in the attic of the Manor. The replica was built by volunteer Barry Silcock and took over seven years to construct. Although, it has been up for a season, it still has problems when the wind gets up, and conversely, when the wind dies, it needs a heavier  weight to start the electric motor up. It still looks mighty impressive though. As interesting as the Wade collection is;  I prefer the Manor Garden with  many arresting borders.
